Nelson Mandela Institute’s work in Bizana

Our trip to Dudley last week was a great success but unfortunately I couldn’t provide regular updates as I was busy making arrangements for Ilima Lokufunda at Khumbuza Junior Secondary School and Dlangezwa Senior Primary School.

Once again I want to thank Ndumiso who, despite bad weather conditions, came down to Bizana to be my second-in-command at Khumbuza. Unfortunately Ayanda could not join us as he has not yet recovered from ill health.

We had a wonderful time with the community and rain showers blessed our activities.

We painted the exterior and the interior of the front block where there are three foundation phase classrooms together with an intermediate phase, then proceeding to the block at the back.

Friday’s rain delayed us, so we had to go back on Monday for an extra day, but parents came to help and support us.

We were also joined by the Department of Education who, by chance, came to do an inspection of the newly built Grade R classroom. They spent some time with us, painting, moving the furniture and taking photographs.

Today I am leaving for Dlangezwa Senior Primary School for Wednesday and Thursday’s Ilima, then Friday I will be at Mbongweni Junior Secondary School with Ayanda and Chumani Landu from the Department of Education to check the progress of the classrooms.

Thanks also to Bandile for his dedication in making both events a great success.
