Phambili ngoMfundi Phambili!!!

This past weekend the Nelson Mandela Institute brought to a close the last session of its three part long annual Phemba Mfundi reading and writing camps.
The camps are held at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu, within walking distance of Mr. Mandela’s home. Over 160 Learners are invited to deepen their classroom experience and develop their skills in the genre of poetry over a three day programme.

One of the many wishes of the NMI is that: through this process, learners begin to find their ‘voices’ amongst their peers as their work goes through a guided process of review by their peers.

Students from the University of Fort Hare, and members of the Ginsberg youth council volunteer their time and energies to this programme, in the hope that their little effort might one day produce yet another Mr. Mandela.

These learners now look forward to the publishing of a bilingual Phemba Mfundi poetry journal showcasing a world of ideas explored over the past three camps.

Till next year we say ‘Phambili ngo-Mfundi Phambili!’
